Brownlee leads field for London World Championship race
July 24 - Alistair Brownlee (pictured), the current leader of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series, will head the British field for the race in London on August 15, it was announced today.
The 21-year-old Yorkshireman who has already won three times in the Series and seemingly in the form of his life to date, heads the list of seven British men who have starting places in the race which is due to take place in Hyde Park.
The list also includes former world champion Tim Don as well as Will Clarke who has enjoyed a recent surge in form and now sits in the top ten of the event’s ranking list.
Brownlee’s younger brother Jonathan, 19, will also compete as will David McNamee.
Alistair Brownlee, the ETU Triathlon European silver medallist, will miss this weekend's leg in Hamburg as will his great rival this season, Javier Gomez of Spain, with whom he has swapped the points lead in the early part of the season.
The Leeds-based athlete, 21, is currently preparing at altitude in St Moritz for the race in London, which is considered to be a dress rehearshal for when the capital stages the Olympics in 2012.
Helen Jenkins, the defending world champion, is also well-placed as London approaches.
She is ranked fifth overall.
Jenkins will be joined in London by Olympian Hollie Avil amongst a list of six British women who have guaranteed places.
So far this season, World Championships Series women’s field has been dominated by Emma Moffatt of Australia, the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist, who now has a hat-trick of circuit wins.
